Q&A: Eyes on the Shore

How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you?
Rock & roll. A little psychedelic, a little heavy.

What are you currently working on?
Getting ready to hibernate for winter and write as much as we can for 2016.

Where do you find inspiration for your songs (maybe give a story behind one specific song)?
We take a vibe or a feel and build upon it until all the layers click. Usually one person has a riff or chord sequence that we will experiment with until the melody or harmony hits. Some songs write themselves in 5 minutes, some take weeks. I think we inspire each other with our different styles and approaches. I watch a lot of content on youtube of bands performing live, its always fascinating to see how songs come to life on stage.

Who has been the biggest influence on your music?
The Beatles and Radiohead

What is something you learned during the past year?
Its valuable to be able to separate business and creativity – we have had to learn to split our time wisely to actually get things done. We are constantly writing and jamming on ideas, or just generally working on our set. When the time comes to get business/promotion stuff done the creativity has to be put on hold so we can function as a band, which hasn’t always been the easiest thing to manage. I think eventually it will all become a natural process, but its something we are still learning.

If you could have an other person’s talent or skill, who and what would it be?
I wish I could shred classical piano.

What song would you make into a movie?
Svefn-g-englar by Sigur Ros

Where’s your favorite place to be in the Bay Area?
Montara, and generally anywhere a long the San Mateo coastline.

What’s your favorite local venue?
The Independent is a sexy club that books amazing talent from around the world. Great sound, great staff and super close to my house.  🙂 Also, the Great American Music Hall because how beautiful the building is, and quality sound.

Who would you like to see on Monday Morning?
Our buds Dangermaker are doing great thigns! We recently had the honor of playing with them at The Rickshaw for their album release show. Would be great to see them here.
